At the CTBTO I have a diverse role - it includes:
the installation and upgrade of IMS stations (Manual 3M, Cinderella, RASA, SAUNA III, SPALAX-NG, Xenon International and MIKS systems)
assessment and training of IMS laboratories, both technically and to INF.96 & ISO17025 standards (certified Lead Auditor)
designing, building and deploying software and advanced algorithms for 50+ facilities (in some of the most remote corners of the world)
managing large-scale, enterprise software contracts & projects (including teams of developers, CI/CD, licencing etc)
Prior to this I spent a decade delivering cutting edge research and world leading technology projects for the UK government. Research interests include ultra low level spectrometry, high multiplicity coincidence systems, Nuclear Treaty Monitoring and Verification technologies, Nuclear Forensics, Nuclear Data studies, Software Development, Monte-Carlo Modelling, and Machine Learning. As you can imagine this requires/required significant experience in:
GEANT4, ROOT, C++, QT, PYTHON, FORTRAN, multiple flavours of database (Oracle SQL/MySQL/NoSQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL)
Acquisition SW from Canberra/Mirion (U-SDK, GENIE2k, ProSpect, Apex-Gamma), ORTEC (MAESTRO, GammaVision), CAEN (DPP libraries, DPP-PHA, COMPASS)
NIM type electronics, Canberra LYNX and OSPREY acquisition modules, CAEN DAQs, semi–conductor (HPGe, Si) and scintillation (NaI(Tl), BGO, BC408, CeBr3, LaBr3(Ce), CZT) radiation detectors
HYSPLIT Atmospheric Transport Modelling (ATM) software, including cluster implementation via MPI / SLURM
BASH, GIT, Docker/Podman, VMs, LATEX2ε, UNIX, TCP/IP, PKI
In my spare time I enjoy breaking/fixing things in my homelab, breaking/fixing things in my house, and breaking/fixing things in my garage. I am always open to interesting projects - just get in touch with any questions/proposals.
